Life in College

Information about graduate facilities and student life at The Queen’s College can be found on the Colleges website. This page contains complementary information.
If you have questions try typing a keyword in the search bar or look at the FAQ. If questions persist please feel free to get in touch with the MCR Committee Members.

DISABILITIES

Queen’s welcomes students with disabilities and can cater for most requirements. In recent years the College has made improvements to its existing facilities in order to improve access for students with disabilities, including a lift to the new library, and level-access toilet facilities adjacent to the Hall for wheelchair users. The College recognises that not all disabilities are visible; candidates who are considering making an application are advised to contact the Tutor for Graduates in advance to discuss their specific needs.

LIBRARY

As a member of the Queen’s MCR you can take advantage of the Queen’s College Library, one of the best-stocked college libraries in Oxford! The current lending library consists of around 50,000 volumes. The Queen’s College also has one of the largest (around 100,000 volumes) and most diverse collections of rare books in Oxford. Can’t find the book you need? Don’t worry! The library accepts requests for new books to be added to its collection. It is even possible to request partial refunds if you want to purchase a book for yourself! More information available here

COMPUTING RESOURCES

Obviously eduroam (university wifi) is available throughout the College. Access to computing, as well as to printers, photocopiers and scanners, can also be found in the main Queen’s College building. You just have to go to the Moffatt Room (Back Quad) and login to one of the available computers to start using the computer facilities you have access as a MCR member of The Queen’s College. Help on how to print.

Extra-curricular activities

Most information is available on this page.

MUSIC PRACTICE ROOMS

There are two music practice rooms (MPR) in the College:

  • Back-quad MPR: drums, upright piano and keyboards.
  • Carrodus-quad MPR: grand and upright pianos and a harpsichord.

To use the rooms you need to book them 24h in advance. You need to ask the porters to grant you access to the booking system.

SPORT

There are many opportunities to practice sport at Oxford as virtually any sport has a university team. However Queen’s Graduates also have access to all college sports facilities including football, rugby and cricket pitches, tennis courts, a gym and a boathouse. These facilities can usually be used through our college teams composed of MCR and JCR students. Contact the MCR sports rep if you have questions about a specific sport within college.

FOOD & DRINKS

As a member of the Queen’s MCR you can also enjoy all meals offered by Queen’s! It includes daily breakfast, lunch (offered on a “pay-as-you-eat” basis) and two-course dinner (booked in advance online). Furthermore, special meals are offered during every academic year! For more information check the dedicated page.

BEER CELLAR

The Beer Cellar is the college bar. Its historic room offers a traditional pub experience, with a well equipped bar, Sky TV, jukebox, darts board and plenty of seating. It opens out into Drawda Garden, where additional outdoor seating is located. One of the most popular places to meet other MCR members over a pint!
