Venneit Close

Overview

Following the closure of an undergraduate accommodation building owned by Queen’s for refurbishment and the decision to allocate St Aldate’s House exclusively to undergraduate students from 2018, College has rented 22 apartments from the private market at Venneit Close (VC).
As well as sharing the flat with other Queen’s graduates (usually 3 students per flat), there will be many others from the college living nearby. This makes meeting up and socialising outside of college easy. Moreover, there will often be Queen’s members going to and from events at the college, so transportation is made more convenient. Rooms are randomly allocated to new graduates. Each bedroom has an individual doorlock.
The VC complex is located in the Jericho area, near Port Meadow and the railway station. It is 10 minutes away from the city centre and 20 minutes away Queen’s College on foot. There are also buses connecting this area to the rest of Oxford. Although this is generally true in Oxford, getting hand on a bike is especially advised by former VC residents as it cuts off a lot of commute time and many bike racks are available around the facilities.

Address

(Your Flat Number e.g. 1) Venneit Close
Oxford
OX1 1HY

In general, you should use Queen’s College address as your mail address. The College Porters are able to sign for items sent by special delivery and keep them safely for you! However, if you register to vote in Oxford, you must use the address of the flat in which you live.

Facilities

Each of the 22 apartments has three study bedrooms, two toilet/bath or shower rooms, kitchen and dining/sitting room. Each apartment has a domestic washing machine in the kitchen and communal areas are shared only by the three occupants of each apartment. You can expect College Scouts come once a week to perform general cleaning in the kitchen and common areas. You can expect to find the following items in your room: a single or double bed, a wardrobe, a desk and a chest of drawers. The beds come with a pillow, duvet and mattress protector. You will need to bring your own pillow covers, duvet covers and bottom sheet.

Internet

Each flat has its own private internet provision; log-in details should be found on a card found with the router.

Laundry

There are also laundry facilities in each kitchen (a combined washer/dryer) which are free to use. Detergent and fabric conditioners are not provided, however.

Parking

There is no parking available for residents of VC. You can park temporarily in front of the flats when moving in or out, though.
